Transforming Philanthropy


Flow Funding is part of a global movement to transform philanthropy. The organizations listed in the Resources section have a wide range of approaches and strategies for making philanthropy more democratic by involving people from diverse backgrounds in making decisions about where and how money is given.


A spirit of trust and intuition rather than quantitative measurements of outcome is also beginning to re-emerge in mainstream philanthropy. In Intuition, Trust and a Great River of Money, Chet Tchozewski, Executive Director of Global Greengrants Fund, quotes Albert Einstein who said, “Not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted.”  Tchozewski writes, “I contend that the ideal system might require no applications, no metrics, just a river of money flowing from philanthropists to where it is needed.” Download a PDF of the complete article.
